The already very modern Cancun International Airport is poised for another expansion according to a new 2019-2023 investment plan released by Mexico’s leading airport operator, Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, or Asur. The new investments are coming on the heels of consistently rising (and often record-breaking) tourism numbers year after year in Mexico’s entire Riviera Maya region, which stretches about two hours south from Cancun and includes Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras and Tulum. Farmers in Mexico’s Riviera Maya are often quick to discuss their challenges with the soil, which is not as rich in nutrients as other areas… A situation that’s in large part due to the Yucatan Peninsula’s limestone bedrock.
