A Journey Into Paradise

Military Exposition in Playa del Carmen on 17 November, 2017

Military Exposition in Playa del Carmen from 17 November to 17 December 2017

At the beginning of November many people began to speculate about the high military presence in downtown Playa del Carmen. Some roads were being shut off and the park in front of city hall was barricaded. What was going on?

Well, no need to panic!!  It turns out that a military exhibition has come to town. “Militar Expo, Fuerzas Armadas, Pasión por servir a Mexico” (which means Military Exposition, Armed Forces, a passion for serving Mexico). Their aim is to strengthen ties with society through cultural, educational and recreational activities.

Located in the park known as ‘Plaza 28 de Julio,’ this is a well thought out exhibition with many fun activities for children and young adults. They are displaying different military vehicles such as planes and helicopters that offer great photo opportunities. Among the many activities available are rappelling, a climbing wall, and the zip line that is visible if you pass by the plaza on 15th Avenue. In total, there are 16 stands and interactive areas such as military transmissions, artillery, special forces and the Navy of Mexico. In the area known as New Technologies, they are giving demonstrations of the latest robot built for the industry to search out and deactivate explosive devices. There is also a stand for the Canine division of the Armed Forces which is always a favorite for everyone. For the young, and the young at heart, they offer face painting with camouflage paints.

Military Exposition in Playa del Carmen from 17 November to 17 December 2017

The expo officially opened on the 17th of November and will  be in town until the 17th of December.  Downtown Playa del Carmen is the last stop on the military’s tour of 21 cities throughout the country and it is hoping to attract 600,000 visitors during its month of residence. Free to enter and look around, this exhibition is a nice way to pass an hour or so in the afternoon. It is lovely to see the pride that Mexican citizens have for their country.
