Local government officials announced recently that new inflatable Wibit water parks have been approved to open in Cancun and several other locations in Mexico’s Riviera Maya. According to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the project will be operated by Float Fun Entertainment and the Wibit water parks will encompass approximately 3,000 square meters of ocean in select locations in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
“The inflatable toys will be presented in various forms, such as jumpers, slides, towers with ropes, bridges, domes, curves, narrow channels and half pipes, among others, whose assemblies will form the words Cancun, Playa and Tulum”, wrote Float Fun Entertainment in a statement submitted to government officials.
The large-scale floating water parks will serve as another family-friendly attraction for the Cancun and Riviera Maya region, which consistently reports soaring tourism numbers year after year, thanks to its safety and natural beauty, as well as the many activities, entertainment options, luxury accommodations and fantastic dining opportunities that abound. The inflatable toys will be anchored to the seabed, creating a larger-than-life playground in the clear turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean Sea.
The anchorage sites of the modules can be changed and will vary depending on the busiest times for tourism in the region, when at least 3,000 visitors are expected to visit the water parks daily. So far, the locations for the Wibit inflatable water parks include the beaches of Playa Langosta, Playa Chac Mool and Plaza Forum in Cancun; as well as Playa Mamitas, Playa Maya and Playacar in Playa del Carmen; and at the Tulum Paraíso beach in the municipality of Tulum.
In 2017 a similar inflatable water park was installed in Puerto Progreso, which is also on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, but it only covers an area of 1,500 square meters. The company says it plans to double that size for the Cancun and Riviera Maya parks, in order to accommodate the much larger number of annual tourists who frequent this area.
