Convenience of the Cancun International Airport, a Local’s Perspective

Many of my clients are in a transitional phase of their lives: Retired, soon-to-be-retired, or looking to relocate. What that means is that these folks are going to be living in Cancun or somewhere else in Mexico’s Riviera Maya and traveling at least a few times a year, whether from home to their investment property here, to see family and friends, or to continue exploring this beautiful planet we live on. Having been a full-time resident of the Riviera Maya for nearly eight years, I cannot stress enough how fortunate my family is to live just an hour from Cancun International Airport. My last year’s travel is a perfect example of why:

Great news for Puerto Aventuras!  It has been announced by Roman Torres that the second half of the Tom Lehman Signature Golf Course is planned to be completed in the next two to three years.  With the droves of visitors from all around the world coming to the Riviera Maya, the founder of the exclusive community desires to continue to build “Puerto’s” prestige. The project will go hand-in-hand with the opening of Phase IV, which includes new waterfront homes and condominiums.

Crossfit is an exercise regime that employs gymnastics,olympic-style lifts, and anaerobic training in order to build one’s overall fitness.  Workouts are randomized in order to “keep the body guessing,” and can take less than five minutes or over an hour to complete, depending on what is called for.  Whereas many gym enthusiasts like to compare how much they can lift,“crossfitters” as they are called, are more apt to compare how fast they can complete a certain workout circuit.

With temperatures plummeting down into the
fifties (that's about thirteen degrees for you non-Americans) during the
evenings, this week is the Riviera Maya's first taste of winter.  Being from Atlanta,I do not claim to be an
expert on harsh winter weather conditions.
We get the occasional ice storm.
However, having lived here in Puerto Aventuras for over two years now,I
can tell you that waking up in the morning to the “cold” right now is quite a
change from the norm.  In fact,I find it
quite refreshing.  I enjoy needing a blanket
to keep warm at night, even sporting jeans and a light jacket during the
day.  This weather puts me in the mood
for football, even if it is already over halfway through the season.  The one drawback I have found is that the
beautiful Caribbean Sea that I have the priviledge of living just steps away
from is a little chilly for my taste.
Call me a big baby if you like,it's cold.

The entire Riviera Maya is blessed with picturesque beaches lining the Caribbean Sea, containing talcum powder-like sand that never burns your feet, even during the hottest summer days. The beach that lines Fatima Bay inside the exclusive Puerto Aventuras real estate community is certainly no exception.  I know it well, having spent many days myself enjoying it in my three years living in Puerto.  Understandably, it would be easy for someone living in the community to only frequent that beach, being so beautiful and located walking distance from home.

When my wife and I first moved to the Riviera Maya in 2009, we both taught at the international school in Puerto Aventuras. Even though our combined income was not a whole lot on teachers’ salaries, we still desired to indulge in the delicious international cuisine that exists in the community.  Surprisingly, so long as we did not order the Surf and Turf every night, eating out more often than not became very doable. Hence, in nearly three years we have discovered what we believe are the best food deals in Puerto Aventuras for two people, under 150 pesos.

The Quintana Roo State Baseball League began last Sunday, and I was fortunate enough to be selected to play on the team representing Playa del Carmen.  What this exciting opportunity means for my family and me,aside from spending more Sundays at the ballpark,is that I will have the awesome opportunity to travel all over the state of Quintana Roo,experience many new places, meet new people, and play some good baseball.

Just recently,my wife and I had the wonderful privilege of celebrating our wedding anniversary over a weekend stay in Casa Redonda at CESIAK.  CESIAK (Centro Ecologico Sian Ka’an) is located just inside of the Sian Ka’an UNESCO World Heritage Site on the southern edge of Tulum, and includes an eco-resort,restaurant,and eco-tour agency that promotes awareness and the preservation of the area.  The fifteen acre property contains five hundred meters of beautiful beachfront and an equal amount of lagoon frontage to the west.
