The city of Puerto Vallarta, located on Mexico’s Pacific Coast,is quickly becoming a go-to spot for foodies as it gains a reputation as being one of the top five travel spots in the world, according to a recent article by Travelzoo.
Most recently,Vallarta Daily reported on the success of the city’s annual pop-up restaurant initiative,a concept that goes along quite nicely with Puerto Vallarta’s annual International Gourmet Festival, which is held each November. Puerto Vallarta’s special Pop-Up Restaurant initiative opened in mid-December and will through April of 2016,featuring a variety of delicious gourmet Mexican cuisine, live music and dancing,an array of high-quality cocktails, craft beers and other adult beverages.
“Mexico’s Velas Vallarta recently debuted its seasonal pop-up restaurant,Alejandra, showcasing gourmet Mexican and farm-to-table offerings,” writes Vallarta Daily.
When designing the menu for Alejandra,Executive Chef Jorge Sierra drew inspiration from the award-winning cuisine of the AAA Four Diamond Restaurant Frida, which is located at Velas Vallarta’s sister Grand Velas Resorts, which are located in the Riviera Nayarit and on Mexico’s Caribbean Coast in the Riviera Maya.
“Highlights include Chiles Mecos, sundried chipotle chilies cooked with brown sugar and stuffed with goat cheese, breaded, fried and served with traditional Mexican charro beans sauce, and Xochimilco Salad, composed of Pursland greens, red and green tomatoes, radishes, yellow squash, tender corn,Panela cheese, organic flowers, black bean sauce and cilantro oil.”
Other recommended options at Alejandro include a baked duck breast entrée served with crispy onions, lima beans, cress, mashed potatoes and pumpkin seed sauce,or perhaps you would prefer to try the short ribs braised with red wine and chocolate, served up with miniature fruit mashed cauliflower and turnip, crispy onions and parsley?
For dessert,Vallarta Daily recommends the Caramel Candy, which is made using sweet, slightly burnt milk caramel blended with bitter chocolate and topped with lemon meringue, among other seasonal delights.
At 120 seats, the “Pop-Up” aspect of the restaurant may come off as a bit pretentious, just keep in mind that it will disappear come spring – regardless of its seeming permanence during this brief moment in time. Alajandro is open Monday through Saturday from 6-10:30 p.m. and offers both live music and dancing nightly.
