Although all-night parties might the first thing you might think of when someone mentions Cancun, the reality of this Mexican beach town is much different than you might expect, revealed Richard Houghton of Investment Properties Mexico.
“While it’s easy to find a party in Cancun if that’s what you’re after, there is so much more to the story,” Houghton shared. “For starters,it’s possible to live a very nice life here for around $2,000 a month – not bad, considering you’re getting the Caribbean lifestyle and everything that comes with it. "
Many expats come to Cancun to escape the cold winter months back home and then opt to rent out their home or condo for additional income during the summer months when not in town. Cancun offers everything one needs in order to enjoy a very high standard of living, including fabulous restaurants, plenty of shopping at chic boutiques and name-brand stores,as well as a large Engish-speaking community made up of both locals and other expats,an excellent excellent public transportation system and great local attractions.
“Cancun is home to plenty of recognizable brands, including Applebees,Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse,Starbucks,McDonald’s,Outback Steakhouse,Bubba Gump’s and Basking Robbins,to name only a few,” Houghton revealed. “Major chains like Walmart and Sam’s Club also have locations in and around Cancun, which makes weekly shopping a breeze.”
Situated on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula,Cancun serves as the gateway to Mexico’s Riviera Maya, with easy access to stunning ruins and magical indigenous communities. Also, the entire region is home to a lush jungle landscape dotted with scenic freshwater cenotes,as well as mile after mile of pristine white sand beaches to enjoy and the world’s second-largest barrier reef is located just offshore in the Caribbean Sea.
Just a few weeks ago,Cheapflights.com announced Cancun is the top destination during the off-peak travel season for 2015,citing the smaller crowds and amazing weather. What could be better than lounging around the pool in a tropical paradise, while back home you would be battling ice, snow and frigid temps?
As if all this wasn’t enough, another great thing about living in Cancun as a part-time expat is the group of friends you will make. There are plenty of other snowbirds from the U.S.,Canada and around the world who come here to live for part of the year,so pretty soon you’ll be looking forward to seeing old friends almost as much as you are looking forward to escaping the winter doldrums.
“Cancun offers expats exceptional bang for their buck when it comes to added value on real estate,” Houghton shared. “It’s possible to live a great life here in the Mexican Caribbean for about the same amount it would cost most expats back home,so it’s really a no-brainer.”
