The legendary American rock quartet and jam band Phish has announced that its very first destination concert event will take place from Jan. 15-17 at the Barceló Maya Beach Resort in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, according to Radio.com.
“Phish is following a trend set by Further,My Morning Jacket and others who have played Caribbean destination concerts to the delight of their dedicated fans.”
The news comes despite the fact that frontman Trey Anastasio is currently gearing up to release a solo album and embark on tour. Phish will reportedly play three concerts during the four-day all-inclusive event, which offers attendees the option of staying at the Barceló Maya Beach Resort,or three other specially selected hotel resorts nearby. According to a press release, shuttle service will be provided for all ticket holders and a variety of off-site adventures will also be available.
“The stage sits just a few feet away from the Caribbean Sea,providing an incredible beach backdrop for the shows.”
The Riviera Maya lies along Mexico’s only Caribbean coast on the Yucatan Peninsula, beginning just south of Cancun at Puerto Morelos and stretching south to include the gorgeous coastal towns of Playa del Carmen,Cozumel,Puerto Aventuras and Tulum. The entire region is overflowing with rich history and culture, surrounded by clear turquoise waters and lush tropical jungle. Here, guest will enjoy easy access to ancient Mayan ruins and the world’s second largest barrier reef,as well as some of the world’s best dining and shopping opportunities.
Off-site adventures during the three-day concert event will include snorkeling, swimming in underground cenotes (idyllic freshwater sinkholes common throughout the region),climbing ancient Mayan ruins, zip line and ATV tours, riding on a luxurious catamaran and swimming with shale sharks,to name only a few. Consider a day trip to Xel-Há,the world’s largest natural aquarium park,or enjoy a day of golf at Mayakoba, the number one golf course outside of the United States, according to Condé Nast Traveler.
