Leading global retailer H&M announced that it has partnered with Mexico City-based real estate development Thor Urbana Capital to open a new location in the heart of Playa del Carmen,Mexico,by summer of 2015 with more than 25,000 square feet of space. The store will be located on Playa’s famed Quinta Avenida,or 5th Avenue,at 12th Street,which is the area’s premier shopping corridor.
This pedestrian-only walkway runs parallel to the Caribbean Sea,which lies just 500 meters away,and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors,presenting the ideal place for Swedish-based H&M to expand it’s growing international presence.
“Playa del Carmen is one of Mexico’s hottest neighborhoods,attracting visitors from around the globe in search of culinary delights,sunny beaches and world-class shopping and entertainment,” stated Jimmy Arakanji and Jaime Fasja,co-CEO’s of Thor Urbana,in a press release. “H&M will fit in seamlessly with its retail neighbors and will provide an exploding number of tourists easy access to the latest fashion trends.”
With a vibrant and famously laid-back beach culture,Playa’s 5th Avenue is one of the most heavily visited pedestrian streets in the world. “H&M’s international designs and contemporary culture are an ideal match for the dynamic property situated in the heart of Playa del Carmen’s shopping district,” stated Joseph Sitt,CEO of Thor Equities and Chairman of Thor Urbana Capital.
According to the release,the project will encompass an entire block along Playa’s 5th Avenue between 12th and 14th Streets,boasting more than 340 feet of frontage. The state-of-the art mixed-use development will also house a mix of several other global fashion brands,along with several leading international restaurants and the first branded lifestyle boutique Thompson Hotel in Mexico’s Riviera Maya.
In addition,the new H&M store in Playa del Carmen will be in good company,with neighboring boutiques already operated by internationally-known brands such as American Eagle,Armani Exchange,Diesel,Forever 21,Guess,Hugo Boss,Lacoste,Nike,Tommy Hilfiger,Victoria’s Secret and Zara,among others. H&M currently operates more than 3,443 stores in 54 countries worldwide,with six in other areas of Mexico,including one near San Miguel de Allende,one in the cities of Morelia,Guadalajara and Leòn,and two in Mexico City
