For anyone who would like to experience what it’s like to live in a beachfront paradise,Tulum on Mexico’s Caribbean coast could be everything you’ve dreamed of and more. Located under two hours away by car from Cancun,Tulum is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and boasts a low-key,eco-chic lifestyle that is tough to beat. In fact, the turquoise waters and fine white sand have long attracted backpackers and other travelers searching for a destination that is farther off the beaten path than Cancun or nearby Playa del Carmen.
Although Tulum is still more of an “unknown” destination than its larger counterparts in the region,it has begun to attract the eye of savvy developers and buyers looking interested in purchasing real estate in Mexico’s stunning Riviera Maya. All signs point to Tulum real estate as the ‘next big thing’ talking about the region,a status that is sure to be cemented when the new international airport breaks ground here in the near future. The new airport will be able to handle at least 3 million passengers each year, but until then the monumental Cancun International Airport is close enough to serve the purpose and provide easy access to the region.
There is already a modern highway connecting Tulum with Cancun and Playa, and the city’s new downtown area – known as Aldea Zama – has been created as a center for shopping, tourism and other amenities. In addition to the beaches,Tulum is home to a spectacular reef system, which is an excellent environment for diving. It is also situated right next to the world-renowned Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, which encompasses almost 1.3 million acres of protected jungle, mangroves, plains and wetlands for visitors to explore,as well as a variety of ancient Mayan ruins.
If dining out is a favorite activity,Tulum has plenty of options, including a variety of excellent restaurants located right on the beach. There are also a number of yoga studios and spas in Tulum, which is known among savvy travelers as an excellent place to relieve the stress of everyday life.
Real estate in Tulum is still quite affordable, but prices are rising and are expected to continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Today, there are still plenty of properties available for around $100,000,situated close to the beach and downtown. In addition, there are many lots going for $40,000,or upscale condos starting at $120,000 located just a short distance from the ocean.
Since most of the beachfront property in Tulum has already been developed, and is somewhat limited to begin with due to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, you can expect to pay more for property located directly on the beach. However, keep in mind that no property in Tulum could be considered far from the beach at this point,so look for listings that are close to the water for the best bargains.
