Cancun Reports 20% Increase in Destination Weddings

01 December, 2013

According to the Cancun Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB),2013 has brought a significant increase in the number of destination weddings in the region. In Cancun, couples can select from a variety of award-winning hotels and all-inclusive wedding packages that are sure to make the experience unforgettable.

“This year alone there has been an increase of 20 percent in weddings compared to 2012,” writes the CVB. “The beautiful tropical backdrop of crystal clear water, white sandy beaches, the beauty of the Mexican Caribbean and high-end hotels offering unique wedding experiences makes Cancun an increasingly popular choice for couples.”

When you consider that 30 percent of U.S. couples opt to have their weddings in a foreign country and 24 percent of these take place in Mexico,it’s easy to see why Cancun is gaining a reputation as one of the world’s top locations for destination weddings. In fact, more than 25,000 couples from the U.S. alone get married in Mexico each year, and in 2012 an impressive 12,000 couples took part in civil and religious unions, vow renewals and Mayan-themed weddings in Cancun.

In addition,Cancun acts as the gateway to the Riviera Maya and the entire region has a strong Mayan cultural history. As a result,Mayan-themed weddings in Cancun are also an attractive option for couples who are looking for a more unique and unconventional ceremony.

One popular spot for destination weddings in Cancun is Palace Resorts, where couples can select from a variety of different offerings, including interfaith,Catholic and Jewish ceremonies. In addition,Indian-themed weddings that include authentic Indian cuisine are now available at the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort. In 2013,this property has experienced an impressive growth rate of 10 percent over 2012 in the total number of destination weddings it hosted.

Hard Rock Hotel Cancun is another popular option for couples planning to have a destination wedding, with nine defferent wedding packages to choose from. The packages were created by celebrity wedding designer Colin Cowie and include chic designs and décor that are inspired by Mexico itself yet have Cowie’s distinct touch.

The Mandala Beach Club reports a remarkable 70 percent increase in destination weddings this year and offers guests the ability to celebrate until dawn on the wedding night, with no set time for closing down the reception. In addition, its location in the bustling hotel zone and its beautiful beach make this an ideal choice for any couple who enjoys lively entertainment.
