Winner Announced in Golf Channel’s Big Break Mexico

04 August, 2013

Taylor Collins of Ft. Lauderdale,Florida, won the Golf Channel’s Big Break Mexico in late July, defeating Matthew Galloway of Tampa,Florida; in the network’s latest installment of its hit reality show franchise. The competition took place this year at the all-inclusive,adults-only IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel Paraiso in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, bringing together six men and six women to battle it out in a professional tour environment.

This year, the competition added a new twist, starting the players out as teammates then slowly turning them into rivals as the event progressed. As the winner,Collins received the largest prize in the show’s history, including an invitation to compete in the 2013 Lorena Ochoa Invitational this November,an Adams Golf endorsement contract including $10,000 cash,$5,000 from Dick’s Sporting Goods,$10,000 in Avis Car Rental credits,$15,000 in travel credits from Travelocity,$15,000 from Macanudo and an all-expenses paid return trip for two to the IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel Paraiso, which is a gem even among the best of Riviera Maya real estate. Each of Collins’ three teammates also won $5,000 from Macanudo.

“I’m a girl and I won the Big Break,” Collins told the Golf Channel. “I beat some boys. Amazing. It is an incredible feeling and such an accomplishment.”

The match never involved a lead greater than two holes, but on the 17th hole Galloway missed an important putt that would have brought the competition to a tie coming into the 18th hole. Instead,Collins went in for the win on the 18th,making a five foot putt for par that brought her two up. All Big Break competitors are highly skilled, having already competed on some of the world’s top golfing circuits, including the PGA Tour,European Tour,LPGA Tour,Champions Tour and Canadian Tour.
