Akumal Real Estate to Host Second Annual Comedy Festival

16 April, 2013

Presented by Stand Up! Records, the second annual Akumal Comedy Festival, held April 11 – 13,features more than one dozen professional comedians from throughout the U.S. and Canada. Performances have been scheduled to take place at four different locations in Akumal and will reportedly showcase some of the best and brightest rising stars in standup comedy today.

Donations are appreciated, but this festival is entirely free and open to the public, thanks in part to the efforts of Dan Schlissel, the Grammy-winning president and founder of Stand Up! Records, along with celebrated actor and comedian Gus Lynch, who has appeared on Saving Silverman,North Country and I Spy. Another goal of the festival is to highlight the exceptional people, restaurants and other local businesses of Akumal, which is a popular destination on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

Situated about 60 miles south of Cancun between the towns of Playa del Carmen and Tulum,Akumal real estate is among the most beautiful small beachfront resort communities that is located along Mexico’s stunning Caribbean Sea. Here, visitors will enjoy the region’s world-renowned natural beauty, which includes ample opportunities for adventure. For example, the nearby Yal-ki Lagoon is an excellent place for snorkeling, while three beautiful bays provide the perfect environment for scuba diving, swimming or simply relaxing on the soft, white sand beaches.

Proceeds from this year’s Akumal Comedy Festival will help to build new classrooms for the local Otoch Paal Montessori School, which works to provide preschool education for the children of Akumal’s native pueblo. The festival will end on Saturday,April 13 at Plaza Ukana on the Canacha with a special performance by the headliners. Other scheduled entertainment includes a variety of live music performances and comedy improv, while several renowned courtroom artists will be on hand to record their impressions of the festival and of Akumal itself. These pieces will be on display following the festival at La Lunita Restaurant on Half Moon Bay.
