Playa del Carmen will host its tenth annual jazz festival from Thursday,Nov. 22 through Saturday,Nov. 24,2012. The Riviera Maya International Jazz Festival has grown substantially over the past decade,attracting new visitors from around the world to Playa del Carmen real estate.
This year’s event promises to bring together a variety of big names,along with some of the world’s brightest rising stars from the international jazz scene. Each year,shows kick off on the beach every evening at 7 p.m. at Mamita’s Beach Club in Playa,which can be found at the northern end of downtown. Visitors can enjoy hours of free music,including a wide variety of styles from traditional jazz to Latin or rock-inspired ensembles.
November is the perfect time to visit the Riviera Maya,with the warm sunny days fading into cooler evenings and spectacular sunsets. This is the perfect climate for an outdoor music festival,especially one that is located directly on the beach!
This year’s lineup will include Joe D’Etienne’s Big Band,which focuses on traditional jazz,Latin jazz performer Pete Escovedo and five-time Grammy award-winning Victor Wooten all on Nov. 22. Then,techno-jazz fusion group Nortec,jazz and soul icon Pancho Sanchez and dance-rock band Level 42 will take the stage Nov. 23. Finally,Playa’s own Aguamala,the legendary Wayne Shorter Quartet and jazz guitar aficionado John Scofield will play Nov. 24.
In previous years,artists such as George Duke,Four Play,Sergio Mendes,Herbie Hancock,Ivan Lins,Armando Manzanero and Stanley Clarke and the Yellowjackets have performed at the festival. As in years past,in 2012 the headlining acts with the largest draw will take the stage on the final day,ensuring that the event closes with a flourish.
