The competition among Mexico’s top resorts is stiff, with some of the world’s hottest vacation destinations competing to be named among the best hotels in the country – and the world – each striving to make it to the top of prestigious lists that are compiled annually by some of today’s most respected travel and tourism organizations.

Air traffic to Mexico is heating up along with the temperatures, with plenty of new flights added and air traffic rising dramatically in early 2013. Travelers can now get to Cancun directly from Belize or the Dominican Republic internationally, and from New Orleans or Dallas in the U.S. In addition, flights are now available from Gatwick and Manchester in the UK to Puerto Vallarta.

Travel Age West has named Puerto Aventuras, Mexico, a “Riviera Maya hot spot,” due to the scenic beauty and wide variety of accommodations that are available here. As the second largest community on the Riviera Maya, Puerto Aventuras lies just 20 minutes south of Playa del Carmen along Mexico’s stunning Caribbean coast. 

At least five new routes have been announced between the U.S. and Mexico real estate over the last few weeks, including service provided by Delta Air Lines, Volaris Airlines, AirTran, Spirit Airlines and United Airlines. 

On average, more than 20 million travelers head to Mexico each year to enjoy the warm sparkling water and soft sandy beaches. As the eighth most-visited country in the world, Mexico’s economy receives a serious boost from the tourism industry each year and the country’s infrastructure remains competitive to keep up with the demand. 

As the number of travelers flooding into Mexico from around the world continues to increase, the number of available flights is also on the rise. The additional flights help to make Mexico real estate more accessible than ever and the added traffic is also fueling talk of the need to build new airports, such as the one planned for Tulum.

Over the past year Mexico, just like every other country in the world has had its ups and downs but I would say more ups than downs. There was swine flu, gangs, drugs but that's all in the boarder towns and areas like Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon.

California-based Virgin America is now offering low-fare, upscale flights from its home base of San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Mexico’s Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). The route will include five nonstop flights each week, making both Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit accessible to travelers.

Virgin America announced that it has chosen its second international destination to be Mexico with the start of its first Mexico service from San Francisco to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.  It will add Cancun flights within the first couple months starting from  Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Virgin America's newest route to Cancun will be highlighted on VH1's “Top 20 Video Countdown" as the first ever Mile High filming of the show will occur on this inaugural flight. The California-based airline launched nonstop flights to Cancun International Airports on January 20th of this year. The flights will run between Cancun and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX),with San Francisco International Airport (SFO) joining a few days later. This will be the third international destination for Virgin America, which has been in operation since 2007.

Travelzoo has announced that Mexico is expected to be one of the top 5 best travel value destinations for 2011. This designation is specifically for the area in and around the Yucatan Peninsula, including Cancun and the Riviera Maya. Travelzoo calls resort areas that win this award, ‘Wow Deal Destinations’ and markets them heavily.

Stewart International Airport began the first of ten flights per week into Cancun in early February 2011, and has reported that almost all flights are completely sold out already.  Cancun is one of the most popular destinations in all of Mexico.  Bruce Wilson, the senior sales manager with Apple Vacations, spoke about the new flights in an interview with the Times Herald-Record, stating that Cancun is the ideal place to escape the cold winter weather and that many Americans, including celebrities, flock south each year to enjoy relaxing on the warm beaches.
