Air traffic to Mexico is heating up along with the temperatures, with plenty of new flights added and air traffic rising dramatically in early 2013. Travelers can now get to Cancun directly from Belize or the Dominican Republic internationally, and from New Orleans or Dallas in the U.S. In addition, flights are now available from Gatwick and Manchester in the UK to Puerto Vallarta.

The buzz is centered around two new properties from well-known luxury brands, namely Secrets the Vine Cancun and the new Riu Palace Cancun, followed by the Hard Rock Hotel Cancun, the Mallorca Hotel and Suites, the Ibis Cancun Centro and the Laquinta Inn & Suites.

Virgin America's newest route to Cancun will be highlighted on VH1's “Top 20 Video Countdown" as the first ever Mile High filming of the show will occur on this inaugural flight. The California-based airline launched nonstop flights to Cancun International Airports on January 20th of this year. The flights will run between Cancun and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX),with San Francisco International Airport (SFO) joining a few days later. This will be the third international destination for Virgin America, which has been in operation since 2007.

Stewart International Airport began the first of ten flights per week into Cancun in early February 2011, and has reported that almost all flights are completely sold out already.  Cancun is one of the most popular destinations in all of Mexico.  Bruce Wilson, the senior sales manager with Apple Vacations, spoke about the new flights in an interview with the Times Herald-Record, stating that Cancun is the ideal place to escape the cold winter weather and that many Americans, including celebrities, flock south each year to enjoy relaxing on the warm beaches.
