2018 Mexico Tourism Numbers Show ‘Exponential Growth’

As a country, Mexico welcomed a record-breaking 39.3 million tourists in 2017, marking a massive 78.7% increase among international visitors since 2012, and no region has felt this increase more than the Riviera Maya! In addition, this year the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) announced that Mexico is the world’s sixth most popular destination, a big leap from number 15 in 2012.

“Mexico’s tourism industry is booming”, wrote Forbes. The country is the No. 1 destination for tourists from the U.S. and is receiving record levels of visitors”.

During the first quarter of 2018 alone, Mexico recorded more than 10 million tourist arrivals, and national tourism officials are expecting to receive at least 40 million tourists by the year’s end, which will be another new record. International travelers are coming to enjoy a variety of major new developments in the Riviera Maya, as well as cities in Baja California Sur and Oaxaca, to name just a few of Mexico’s most popular hotspots.
