If a luxury-infused beach holiday is what you crave, but remaining immersed in throngs of spring breakers for the entire holiday just doesn’t sound appealing,Isla Mujeres offers an ideal compromise. Located just offshore from Cancun in the Mexican Caribbean Sea,Isla Mujeres offers gorgeous white-sand beaches,year-round sunshine and warm temps.
“Characterized by white sand beaches and crystal turquoise water, the tropical escape can often feel like an unattainable slice of paradise,” wrote the UK Daily Express. “But a taste of this sun-drenched bliss may be more affordable than you think.”
In addition to being one of the most beautiful places on earth,Isla Mujeres is also brimming with rich history and local culture. Visitors can enjoy up close encounters with sea life, cocktails on the beach and luxurious resorts with on-site leisure facilities. The name “Isla Mujeres” is Spanish for “Isle of Women,” and also offers close proximity for day trips to Cancun.
The idyllic island is easy to reach via ferry from Puerto Juarez in north Cancun,as well as from three other locations in the Cancun Hotel Zone, making travel to Isla Mujeres both safe and efficient. The ferry even offers air conditioning in the main cabin area, along with gorgeous views from the upper deck. The ferry departs every half hour from Cancun to Isla Mujeres, from 5 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.,then there are three more each night at 9:30,10:30 and 11:30 p.m. The final ferry from Isla Mujeres to Cancun departs the island at midnight.
As for where to stay,Goats On The Road recommends budget travelers heading to Isla Mujeres check out the Poc Na Hostel, which also offers free breakfast, but warns that it tends to have a party atmosphere.
