According to a new report from the Ministry of Tourism, the number of seats on national and international flights into Cancun and Mexico’s Riviera Maya will total more than 2.1 million between November of 2015 and January of 2016. In addition, the Riviera Maya has announced that investments are at an all-time high, with more than 2,000 new hotel rooms added to the region in 2015,reported the Riviera Maya News.
“The Bank of National Foreign Trade are currently signing more loans to ensure funding for local entrepreneurs,” writes the Riviera Maya News. “Projectors for the region are that by 2017,there will be an additional 4,000 new accommodation rooms in the state of Quintana Roo.”
The Ministry of Tourism also revealed that visitors from the United States and Canada make up the largest part of the market, followed by Europeans from the UK,France,Spain and Germany,as well as Brazilians and Columbians from Latin America. In addition, visitors from Russia have also been sharply increasing in recent years.
“We have the best connected country to the world with direct flights to major cities in America and Europe,” stated Laura Fernandez Piña,Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo (Sedetur). “In recent years, the winter tourist seasons have been excellent with up to 10,000 national and international visitors per day making their way around destinations such as Cancun,Isla Mujeres and into the Riviera Maya.”
According to a recent article by The Times, visitors are attracted to Mexico’s Riviera Maya because it offers an escape from the mundane beach vacations that are offered at so many other international locales. In Mexico, just south of Cancun’s International Airport, the Riviera Maya is home to a variety of small fishing communities that are set in the midst of “an inspiring jungle atmosphere,” that also includes the clear turquoise waters and white sand beaches of the Mexican Caribbean,as well as a variety of ancient Mayan ruins. The entire Riviera Maya is also known as a diver’s paradise, home to some of the world’s best scuba diving and snorkeling, thanks in large part to the fact that the world’s second largest barrier reef is located just offshore.
“One of the most underrated offerings in the Riviera Maya is Xcaret Eco archaeological park,” writes The Times. “The park combines 50 exciting attractions, including an inspiring evening show that takes you through centuries of Mexico’s rich cultural heritage.”
Visitors will also enjoy a visit to Playa del Carmen,an ever-popular tourist town known for its world-class shopping and dining,as well as Tulum, home to the only ancient Mayan pyramid overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The ruins of Chichen Itza – once an ancient Mayan principal ceremonial center – are also located in the Riviera Maya region and have been named one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
And as the 2015-2016 winter travel season progresses,Gerardo Corona González, who serves as the Finance Director of Tourism Investment Projects of the National Foreign Trade Bank (Bancomext),says that the Riviera Maya will remain one of the most important growth opportunities, especially when it comes to developing new tourist attractions.
