Travelzoo Names Puerto Vallarta Among Top 5 Travel Destinations For 2016

10 November, 2015

Travelzoo has released its list of the top five “Wow Deal Destinations for 2016” and Puerto Vallarta on Mexico’s Pacific Coast has snagged one of the highly coveted spots.

“These destinations are where Travelzoo deal experts believe Americans will get the best cost-saving travel opportunities in the coming year,” writes Pix11.com. “The 2016 Wow Deal Destinations are: Norway,Cuba,New York City,Canada, and Puerto Vallarta."

One reason for Mexico’s continued appeal among international travelers – in addition to its many gorgeous beaches and fabulous weather – is the fact that the Mexican peso has continued to plunge against the U.S. dollar, which makes it easier than ever for resorts and vacation rentals to lure travelers. Puerto Vallarta is also working hard to compete against other popular destinations in Mexico like the Riviera Maya and Cancun, which lie on the nation’s only Caribbean Coast.

“With five new hotel openings in 2015 and two more in 2016,travelers can anticipate nightly rates at 4-star resorts to average $147 for peak season dates and $81 for low season dates – an 18 percent decrease from 2013,” writes Pix11.com.

In addition,Mexico and the United States plan to update their bilateral aviation agreement,(the current version is from 2005),so more airlines can service U.S.-Mexico routes. The current aviation agreement allows for only a three-carrier limit for 14 specific destinations, but the updated agreement will reportedly permit an unlimited number of carriers to serve any U.S.-Mexico city pair, which will not only increase the available flight inventory, but will also bolster the number and type of available deals to gain market share.

Travel Weekly also reported recently on the destinations in Mexico that are experiencing a major rise in tourism, including Puerto Vallarta,Cancun,Cabo San Lucas and cities throughout the Riviera Maya, such as Playa del Carmen,Tulum,Puerto Aventuras and Cozumel. In addition,Travel Weekly also named a few up and coming destinations in Mexico, including Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca,Valle de Guadalupe in Baja California and Isla Holbox in the Mexican Caribbean, which lies north of Cancun just offshore from Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

“One of Mexico’s lesser-known Caribbean islands,Holbox is one of the most untapped travel destinations in the country,” writes Travel Weekly. “The island is part of the Yum-Balam,Mexico’s largest ecological reserve, and its intentional lack of development means travelers are enjoying unspoiled nature.”

Isla Holbox offers unbeatable boating and day trips,as well as easy access to the Pajaros Island bird sanctuary. Visitors also enjoy the Yalahau lagoon, known for its commonplace dolphin sightings,as well as swimming with whale sharks from May to September.
