Each year,Mexico – and specifically the Caribbean city of Cancun – is named the most popular international destination for spring break traveler of all ages and 2015 is already proving to be no exception. In fact, according to the Tourism Review,Cancun is expecting to host at least 80,000 spring breakers this season, which lasts approximately six weeks and typically encompasses three weeks leading up to and immediately following Easter.
“Cancun, the popular destination in southeastern Mexico, is expecting the arrival of between 70,000 and 80,000 U.S. students during the spring break season, which has already started,” shared Laura Fernández Piña, head of the Ministry of Tourism in the Caribbean state of Quintana Roo.
American Express Travel Counselors also named Cancun the top international destination for travel this spring break season, along with Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta on Mexico’s Pacific coast. The winners were selected based on customer travel trends and booking between March 10 and April 20.

Although many students flock to Cancun each year, there are also plenty of adults who are escaping to the Mexican Caribbean this year as well. In fact, the area’s many all-inclusive (and adults-only!) beachfront hotels are ideal for travelers who don’t want to worry about spending too much on food and drinks. Most of the properties are situated close to many of the most popular clubs in Cancun, but also have excellent nightlife and a DJ on-site if venturing out is too much trouble. Of course, the room service is also a huge bonus if you do happen to stay out all night!
“Mexico is still one of the hottest destinations for spring breakers,” writes Fox News.
Another great thing about choosing Cancun and/or the adjacent Riviera Maya region of Mexico for spring break is that the area is very safe. In fact, the Cancun Civil Protection Department increased the number of lifeguards on the city’s beaches to ensure the safety of larger crowds, and also assigned more than a dozen officers to patrol the nightclub areas. Extra measures like this are a direct reflection of the Cancun Convention and Visitor’s Bureau’s efforts in recent years to attract a wide array of travelers to the region for spring break, since this historic and culturally rich area of Mexico has so much more to offer travelers than just a fantastic place to party.
“In the nearly two decades of receiving [spring break] tourists, there has been great improvement in the behavior and attitude of the authorities, tourism businesses and the visitors themselves,” shared Fernández Piña.
