The new Circuito Cultural weekly arts showcase premiered Jan. 17 at the marina in downtown Cabo San Lucas in the inaugural event of what will be a permanent weekly celebration of the region’s thriving arts scene. According to a press release, the tour takes place on the malecon (boardwalk) of Marina Cabo San Lucas each Saturday from noon to 11 p.m. and features arts exhibitions, food and beverage tastings, workshops and live entertainment by a variety of local dance troupes and musicians.
“The newly launched event is intended to provide a ‘forum for culture in all its expressions,’ stated Los Cabos’ Municipal Director of Culture,Blanca Azucena Hernandez Castro, according to Los Cabos Guide online. “The first two editions of the Circuito Cultural served as a profile-raising showcase for local artists and entertainers, but have also featured broad representations of Mexican character and culture, including singers belting out ranchera ballads and colorful parrots perched outside the Puerto Paraíso shopping mall.”
Cultural workshops for children and adults are also part of the fun, teaching painting techniques, sculpture, reading, arts and crafts, bindery and more beginning at 5 p.m. on select evenings, while menu tastings and drinks from a variety of local restaurants will also be available from 7 – 11 p.m. every Saturday night.
Although the new event is still in its infant stages, the new Cabo San Lucas Circuito Cultural is already showing fantastic attendance numbers and promises to be a longtime fixture to the many cultural and artistic events held in and around the region, which is collectively referred to as Los Cabos. The weekly festival is the result of a group effort that includes local government, area entrepreneurs and civic organizations, who will host the event at the marina in downtown Cabo,as well as at other local sites of cultural or historical importance, such as the town square, the outdoor cultural pavilion and the cultural center
“Each week, close to three dozen artists will exhibit their paintings, sculpture and photographs at the Circuito Cultural, with booths lined along the marina boardwalk, from the cruise ship terminal to the Marina Golden Zone,” writes Los Cabos Guide. “The event will also offer dedicated wine and tequila tasting stations and live entertainment – including music, theater, dance and poetry.”
