There is no question that the overblown, sensationalized, irresponsible news reporting by the US regarding the so called drug war has unfairly tarnished Mexico's image.
However ,according to the leaders and experts in real estate in the Riviera Maya,Investment Properties Mexico, the reality is that tourism is up 25% in this idyllic slice of Heaven located on the Yucatan Peninsula.
Folks across the globe realize, statistically speaking, how incredibly safe this region of Mexico is compared to any major city in the United States, Canada and the rest of the world.
In fact, Mexico is the 11th largest country by population in the world and is not even in the top ten of the most crime ridden locations and is home to many spirited, happy Ex-Pats who would rather be here where the breezes are warm and the tranquility of the Caribbean Sea beckons them every morning to come hither into its turquoise waters.
The Mayan Riviera has consistently been the strongest performer among all of the tourist locations in Mexico.
This pristine, gorgeous area situated on the Yucatan Peninsula is home to international hot spots like Playa del Carmen,Cancun,Puerto Aventuras,Tulum and of course Jacque Cousteau's favorite hangout, the island of Cozumel.
These 4 locations, commonly used in the same breath as "Paradise" are home to countless large resorts and quaint boutique hotels.
It is a magical place of unspoiled, white sand beaches, ancient Mayan sites of extreme archaeological importance, lush jungles, and a happening and lively nightlife.
In the past year alone, over 100,000 rooms were added along this sandy stretch of Heaven. Hotel occupancy in 2011 is at 70.6% which is up 12.7% from last year. Did someone say recession?
It is important to note that the ridiculous US travel advisories did not include or name the Riviera Maya, or for that matter the entire state of Quintana Roo. The 16 Mexican states included in the warning are hundreds of miles from the Riviera Maya.
Just last month, Mexico's president, Felipe Calderon, introduced his new campaign for tourism called "Mundo Maya" which will undoubtedly and exponentially boost tourism in the area.
This campaign will showcase the ancient civilization of the Mayan people and will continue to promote this area as a world class destination. Mr. Calderon is quoted as saying,"We will continue to invest heavily in tourism infrastructure in the Southeast!"
Paving the way for even more international tourists seeking fun in the sun, is the new Riviera Maya International airport being built in the historic seaside town of Tulum. Expected to handle up to 3 million new visitors a year, this will undoubtedly continue to affect and enhance real estate prices in the area.
The steady parade of tourists has even outpaced even the Mexican government's projections and has certainly fueled an exponential profit for those land and condo owner's in Tulum and the entire region.
With these factors in place, buying real estate and land banking in Tulum and in the entire Riviera Maya is a perfect recipe for one's portfolio. That is, huge upside potential located in Paradise!
