The Riviera Maya was recently recognized as the best tourist destination in Mexico in 2010 as determined by Distintivo W, an organization often referred to as the “Oscars” of Mexican tourism. The organization recognizes 15 different aspects of tourism ranging from best airline to best travel gadget. The panel of judges was made up of 9 chief editors of major travel magazines; four directors and three chief editors of the most visited travel websites in Mexico, and two producers of highly recognized television programs for tourism.
The Riviera Maya received three awards those being: Best Promotion for Mexican Beaches,Best Visiting
Information Offices, and Best Destination in Mexico. The organization Xcaret Experiences which operates the eco-friendly water park Xcaret received the award for the Best Tourist Dedicated Company to Work For.
Many global industry leaders in hotel management, construction, and food and beverage have already identified the tourist demand, as well as the economic potential the region has to offer. Such household names as McDonalds, Subway, Marriot, and Hilton dot the Yucatan peninsula. Global powerhouses such as Spain´s largest developer OHL, and two of Spain´s largest banks Bancaja and Banco de Valencia have also recently decided to invest more than $2 billion dollars collectively in the area.
Many individual investors have also profited from this strip of paradise in the form of real estate investment. Unlike the massive declining values seen in markets such as Arizona, California, and Florida, property in the Riviera Maya has maintained its value due to a high demand for the area by vacationers, as well as a real estate market primarily conducted in cash.
If you haven´t considered investing in Mexico before maybe it’s a good time to start.
