Mexico dominates the listings for the world’s best vacation spots in 2014, published by U.S. News & World Report, which documents the top international travel destinations according to a wide array of guest reviews and expert recommendations. Here are the winners from Mexico this year:
Playa del Carmen
Named one of this year’s “Best Winter Vacations,” the picturesque town of Playa del Carmen boasts a chic, upscale vibe that has made this beach town popular among savvy travelers worldwide. Located just south of Cancun in the heart of Mexico’s Riviera Maya,Playa is known for its world-class golf, dining, shopping, and – of course –white-sand beaches. The report also found Playa del Carmen to be one of the world’s “Best Spring Break Destinations,” chosen for its affordability, natural beauty and lively beachside party spots.
“Sophisticated expats and vacationing Europeans relax at the beachside lounges, upholding this enclave’s budding reputation as the place in Quintana Roo to see and be seen,” writes U.S. News & World Report.
Known for its impressive seaside Mayan ruins, which include an ancient pyramid, this up and coming vacation destination also made the list of the world’s “Best Winter Vacations” for 2014. Situated just south of Playa del Carmen,Tulum has become a favorite getaway among travelers worldwide in recent years and property in the area has been dubbed the next big thing for investors.
“Tulum continues to be a quiet alternative to the other Riviera Maya resort areas,” writes U.S. News & World Report.

Situated on Mexico’s Pacific coast, this seaside gem was named one of the “Best Beaches in the World,” for 2014. With a small-town feel, modern infrastructure and a sophisticated oceanfront,Puerto Vallarta is sure to please with its unique mix of refined elegance and local charm. The report also found Puerto Vallarta to be one of the world’s “Best Spring Break Destinations,” thanks to its affordability and lively nightlife, along with its many outdoor activities and water sports. Finally,Puerto Vallarta was named one of the world’s “Best Golf Destinations,” with local courses designed by greats such as Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf.

Cabo San Lucas
This year, consider heading to Mexico’s Pacific coast to visit the resort town of Cabo San Lucas, which was also named one of the world’s “Best Spring Break Destinations.” Beautiful beaches and an upscale vibe make this an ideal choice for students and families who need some rest and relaxation from hectic winter schedules.
“This destination on the southernmost tip of Baja California is still known for its decadence – just take a look at the sprawling golf courses or deluxe villas,” writes U.S. News & World Report. “Days in the spa are just as coveted as evenings at a beachside watering hole.”
No list of the world’s best vacation spots would be complete without mentioning Cancun, which garnered a spot on this year’s list of the “Best Cheap Spring Break Destinations.” Although luxury is easy to find in this Caribbean resort town, it is also an excellent place to escape the winter doldrums on a budget.
“This Mexican city is the ultimate spring break destination,” writes U.S. News & World Report. “Cancun boasts festive nightlife, a rollicking part scene and long stretches of beach ideal for lounging.”
