Tulum Travel Guide - Top 3 Must See Attractions in Tulum

08 September, 2013

There are so many things to see when visiting Mexico’s Riviera Maya, which is an area that is truly brimming with natural beauty, modern amenities and much, much more. Here,we’ve made up an easy to read list of several activities any traveler heading to Tulum should be sure to enjoy – whether its your first time or a return visit.

Cenotes

For many Western travelers, the term cenote is still unfamiliar and even its pronunciation – si-no-tea  - seems full of wonder. These sinkholes can be found throughout Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and are formed over time as the limestone bedrock erodes to expose fresh groundwater beneath. Scuba divers enjoy descending into what resembles a large natural swimming pool, which is also home to a variety of large indigenous sea and freshwater animals. The largest and most popular cenote in the region is known as Gran Cenote,,which is just a short jaunt up the brand new highway from the Cenote Calavera, which is a favorite among scuba divers.

Beaches

The beach that lies beneath the ancient Mayan pyramid of El Castillo in Tulum is perhaps the post popular attraction, and the impressive Temple of the Wind also lies nearby. But the real gem when it comes to Tulum’s beaches can be found in the nearly 1o kilometers of soft white sand that cannot be found elsewhere on earth. The worlds most respected travel organizations – from Travel + Leisure to Conde Nast Traveler have all paid homage to the beaches of Tulum, but the best way to understand – of course - is to come on down see for yourself!

Anicent Mayan Ruins

It’s tough to beat a gorgeous beach town that is brimming with opportunities – including fine dining, cashual traditional Mexican fare,high-end shopping,a flair for sustainability, affordable real estate and easy access to some of the world’s most stunning ancient ruins. Of course,we’ve also mentioned El Castillo – the only ancient Mayan pyramid overlooking the sea in all of Mexico, but the surrounding region is also full of other important sites, including Chichen Itza and Coba,to name only a few

Oh,and just one more thing: In Tulum,a new major international airport is already in the late planning stages, which will drive even more growth to this already booming eco-chic favorite getaway destination of Hollywood A-Listers.
