The competition among Mexico’s top resorts is stiff, with some of the world’s hottest vacation destinations competing to be named among the best hotels in the country – and the world – each striving to make it to the top of prestigious lists that are compiled annually by some of today’s most respected travel and tourism organizations.
Most recently,U.S. News & World Report has ranked the “Best Hotels” in all of Mexico and in the nation’s Riviera Maya region for 2013. In Mexico as a whole, the short list includes Rosewood’s Las Ventanas al Paraiso and San Miguel De Allende in Cabo San Lucas,as well as the St. Regis Punta Mita and the Banyan Tree Cabo Marques. In the Riviera Maya, top choices include the stunning Rosewood Mayakoba, the Grand Velas Riviera Maya, the Fairmont Mayakoba and the Ritz-Carlton in Cancun. The rankings are determined using the collective opinion of both guests and travel experts, which are used to find resorts and hotels that consistently meet and exceed the expectations of discerning travelers.
The prestigious Zoover Awards 2013 have also recognized hotels in the Riviera Maya, naming the Royal Playa del Carmen and its sister resort the Gran Porto Real Playa del Carmen as two of the “Best Hotels in Mexico.” Also on the list this year were the Iberostar Gran Paraiso, the Iberostar Tucan and the RIU Palace Mexico in Playa del Carmen,as well as the El Dorado Royale in Puerto Morelos and the Gran Bahia Principe in Akumal real estate. The Zoover Awards are among the most-coveted annual prizes in the international travel industry and are only given to the best accommodations in the world.
Finally, the JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa has topped American Airlines’ Celebrated Living Magazine list of the best destinations in Mexico this year, with this world-class resort rising effortlessly to the very top of the magazine’s Reader’s Choice coveted “Platinum List,” which includes the very best hotels in all of Mexico,Central and South America. The list is compiled annually by editors based on the results of a survey that reaches more than 650,000 readers throughout the airline’s travel network.
“The JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa soared to the top of the list, not only as the best resort in Cancun, but excelled over destinations in Buenos Aires,Costa Rica,Rio de Janeiro,Mexico City,Los Cabos,Chile,Puerto Rico and Peru,” writes the Wall Street Journal’s MarketWatch. “This impressive Cancun spa resort was also listed among the magazine’s Top 20 Family Resorts worldwide.”
