A total of five new flights to Mexico from a variety of international locations have been announced this May,including three from AeroMexico, one from Pullmantur Air and one from Frontier Airlines that is also backed by Apple Vacations. In addition,Mexico’s leading airport operator,ASUR,has announced that total air passenger traffic to Mexico real estate has increased by more than 11 percent so far this year, compared to the same period in 2012.
AeroMexico will now offer a new route from LAX in Los Angeles to La Paz,which lies just an hour and a half from Cabo San Lucas on Mexico’s west coast and is known for its international fishing tournaments, scuba diving and ecotourism. The twice-weekly flights will allow passengers to travel back and forth from LAX and La Paz on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week.
“The introduction of direct flights from LAX and new hospitality offerings will open doors for visitors who have yet to experience La Paz,and make it even easier for returning travelers to access more than 400 years of history and the incredible marine life of the Sea of Cortez,” Agustín Olachea, president of the La Paz Tourism Board, told the LA Times.
AeroMexico also announced its fourth route from Houston to Mexico City in May,with service scheduled to begin July 15, 2013. The service was added to meet growing demand among business and leisure travelers. Growing demand has also prompted AeroMexico to begin a third frequency from Chicago to Mexico City beginning July 15,and the airline has already been operating flights between Chicago and Guadalajara.
Frontier Airlines has announced new service between Newport News and Cancun, scheduled to begin in February 2014 following a very busy spring break season this year. According to Travel Weekly,Apple Vacations has joined the team to develop travel and tourism packages that will complement the new flights, which will be the first commercial international flights in the airline’s history.
“Due to the demand of area travel agents,we determined that the Newport News/Williamsburg area would be a good addition to our Apple Vacations origins cities,” stated Tim Mullin,co-president of Apple. “We are hopeful that this new winter Cancun program is a success and that we will see demand for additional flights as well as new destinations from Newport News in the future.”
Flights from Madrid,Spain,to Cancun and back are also now available from Pullmantur Air,but seating is limited so travelers are urged to act fast.
