The 2013 travel season is already heating up in Mexico,as vacationers continue to choose Cancun as the number one international destination, according to Orbitz. With Memorial Day just around the corner,Cancun is set to begin what is sure to be one of its busiest years on record.
“All signs point to a glorious summer season as Cancun is named the top international destination for summer travel by Orbitz,” writes the Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). “Cancun’s hotel occupancy in the first three months of the year has been stronger than any January-March period going back to 2007.”
Cancun real estate was chosen as the number one vacation spot based on the Orbitz Summer Travel Insider Index, which analyzes air and hotel booking data from Orbitz.com for travel between June 1 and August 31,2013. According to Smith Travel Research,a U.S. company that tracks data globally for the hotel industry,79 percent of hotel rooms in Cancun were occupied during the first quarter of 2013,a period that includes New Year’s Eve,spring break and Easter,as well as the ever more popular Cancun & Riviera Maya Food and Wine Festival, which extends south to include Playa del Carmen and other destinations in the Mexican Caribbean.
In addition,it is now easier than ever for travelers to reach Cancun, thanks to a variety of new flights from major cities around the world, including Dallas,Texas, and New Orleans,Louisiana. Cancun is also home to some of the world’s most spectacular beaches and entertainment venues,as well as a wide variety of world-class shopping and dining opportunities.
“Summer is one of the most exciting times to visit Cancun,” writes the Cancun CVB. “In just 43 years of existence,Cancun has grown from a sleepy fishing village into a world-class city, famous for its beaches, entertainment,Mayan culture and renowned hospitality. An incredible summer for Cancun is in the cards, and the destination hopes to surpass guest’s expectations with its incredible hotels, culinary prowess and adventure offerings that will have visitors falling in love with Cancun all over again or for the very first time.”
According to the LA Times,as Memorial Day weekend approaches, travel website Kayak.com has also named Cancun as the most popular destination for international travelers headed to Mexico, followed by Cabo San Lucas,Puerto Vallarta and Cozumel.
