A new Liverpool store has opened on the south end of Playa del Carmen, Mexico, drawing excited shoppers from throughout the region to check out its many high quality items. As the largest chain of department stores in Mexico, Liverpool already operates a nearly 100 upscale shopping malls and department stores throughout the country, some of which are duty free stores and specialized boutiques.
The new department store located in Playa real estate has a variety of goods, including housewares, candy and confections, books and magazines, jewelry, men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, makeup and fragrances, a children’s department, electronics, luggage, linens and towels, furniture, musical instruments, a full-service optical department, seasonal items and more. Liverpool provides visitors and residents alike the chance to easily shop for quality items such as hostess gifts, birthday presents and special clothing purchases, and will prevent the need to travel nearly an hour north to visit the Cancun location.
The Liverpool brand can be traced back to 1847, when Frenchman Jean Baptiste Ebrard began selling clothing and other merchandise that had been imported from Europe in Mexico City’s bustling downtown under the name The Cloth Case. Since many of the items were shipped via Liverpool, England, he soon adopted the name for his growing enterprise.
The Liverpool Playa del Carmen location will reportedly eventually anchor a massive urban lifestyle center, including retailers such as Zara and Zara Home, H&M, Massimo Dutti, Armani Exchange and Lacoste. New retailers attracted to Mexico by the store’s opening will reportedly include West Elm, Apple, Chipotle Mexican Grill and REI. The location is close to Playacar and the tourist zone, so it can easily support this level of retail and serves as an extraordinary compliment to the continued growth of the city.
