The Sacramento Bee reported last week that the number of English tourists heading to Mexico is set to increase dramatically over the coming months, following a meeting between Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism Gloria Guevara and several of London’s top travel executives.
According to the report, some of the UK’s leading travel companies and airlines have indicated that the frequency of travel to Mexico is expected to rise.
“Virgin Atlantic confirmed that from April 2013,the airline will increase by 50 percent the number of seats on its London-Cancun route, considered to be one of the most successful for the British company,” writes the Sacramento Bee. “Virgin Atlantic is also evaluating the opening of new flights to other Mexican tourist destinations.”
In addition,Johan Lundgre, who is the deputy CEO of TUI Travel, which is a leading travel group that operates in more than 180 countries and has more than 30 million clients, has confirmed that the first Dreamliner 787 will land in Cancun by 2013,which will dramatically increase the tour operator’s presence in Mexico. During the tourism secretary’s visit to London, important agreements were also established to facilitate a Pacific route for TUI,which will help to further increase the number of visitors heading to Mexico from the UK.
This is significant news for Mexico real estate owners and buyers who are interested in obtaining rental income from their property,or are simply waiting for property values to rise. In fact, tourism numbers throughout the country are growing at a steady rate following a record year for Mexico in 2011,which saw more than 191.5 million domestic and international travelers. According to current predictions,Mexico is likely to see more than 200 million visitors by the end of 2012.
“The current Mexican administration has advanced such actions as accepting a U.S. visa for the entry of international visitors to Mexico,as used by more than a million tourists since May 2012,” Guevara shared. The secretary also pointed out the impact of “the streamlining of visas for citizens of Brazil,Russia and China, who can now obtain the document in 24 hours,” and the fact that Mexico “has launched the Global Entry Program for trusted travelers between the U.S. and Mexico.”
