13 September, 2012

Virgin America's newest route to Cancun will be highlighted on VH1's “Top 20 Video Countdown" as the first ever Mile High filming of the show will occur on this inaugural flight. The California-based airline launched nonstop flights to Cancun International Airports on January 20th of this year. The flights will run between Cancun and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX),with San Francisco International Airport (SFO) joining a few days later. This will be the third international destination for Virgin America, which has been in operation since 2007.

"We're excited to welcome Virgin America to the hottest spot in the Mexican Caribbean.  Virgin America is offering an exceptional new, low-fare airline option for travelers headed to Cancun's world-class resorts, beaches and attractions. We welcome Virgin American travelers to come and experience all that Cancun and the treasures of the Caribbean have to offer," said Jesus Almaguer, Director of the Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau in a Virgin America press release.

In order to draw interest for the new flight,VH1's popular countdown show was hosted live from the Virgin America's inaugural flight from Los Angeles and will air on the music video station on January 29th. The event featured the alternative rock band the Goo Goo Dolls sitting in First Class chatting about their music with host Jim Shearer, as well as Virgin Group Founder Richard Branson making a special appearance. Guests on the special flight received rock star treatment with mood lighting, on demand drinks and food and a huge entertainment library. These features will be part of every Virgin America flight to Cancun.

“We think flyers deserve to start their Mexican getaways as soon as they board their flight – and with the best in entertainment, beautiful cabins and outstanding service, we think travelers will agree that Virgin America is the perfect way to jump-start their Mexican vacation a few hours early,” said David Cush, President and CEO.

Even though the special flight is over, you can still win from VH1 and Virgin America. They are teaming up with Live Aqua to reward three lucky VIPs with a Cancun getaway. Winners will receive flights on Virgin America to and form Cancun, along with three days of stay at the Live Aqua Cancun resort. Enter the sweepstakes at the official website until February 9,2011.

Mexico is one of the most popular vacation destinations for Americans and Canadians and many expats are choosing to buy homes in Cancun.  The outstanding beaches and the vibrancy of the local culture attracts millions of vacationers and Virgin America is hoping that their flights will help travelers begin their Mexican experience as soon as they board the plane to Cancun.
