13 September, 2012

A new,state-of-the-art Unilever
factory opened in mid-July in Mexico and will serve as a manufacturing hub for
deodorants like Axe and Dove. It will supply product to markets throughout
Mexico,the United States,Canada,Central America,Columbia and the Caribbean,
increasing distribution and driving growth throughout North and Central
America. The new Unilever plant is equipped with its very own solar energy
production capabilities,as well as innovative water collection and recycling
abilities, making it a standout model of sustainability for future plants that
will be built around the world.

Unilever's CEO,Paul Polman,
joined Mexican president Felipe Calderon at the opening of the new facility,
discussing the company's commitment to the continued economic prosperity and
future development of Mexico. The plant has received an initial investment of
$100 million USD and has the capacity to produce more than 500 million products
every year.

“The Americas is a very important
region for Unilever, and Mexico is a key part. We have a long history in Mexico
and we have a strong commitment to its future, its growth and economic
development. This new factory is another example of Unilever's vision in action
– to double the size of their business whilst reducing the environmental
impact,” said Polman. “Not only will it enable us to grow our presence in the
region, but it also highlights our determination to live out our commitment:
Sustainability has been built into the design and the latest technology has
been used to ensure a low energy, environmentally efficient factory.”

In addition,Unilever's Mexican president Fabio Prado stated,“This
project could not have been possible without the effort of our operative and
administrative staff, which was highly trained in different countries all over
the world. In Unilever we have placed our trust in Mexico, and its economic and
social development.” The new plant will create more than 1,700 jobs and marks
more than 40 years for Unilever's operations in Mexico.
