Mexico Poised to Become World Manufacturing Hub in Aerospace Industry

13 September, 2012

International Aerospace industry investors have begun to really take notice of Mexico's strong engineering skills, exceptional value and excellent safety record, according to the Mexican Federation of Aerospace Industries (FEMIA),which is a non-profit association that currently represents more than 95% of the country's aerospace parts exports. Today,Mexico is home to the second largest fleet of private aircraft in the world (next to the US) and is the tenth largest supplier of parts to the US market. This has allowed the country to emerge as one of the biggest recipients of foreign direct investment in the aerospace industry over the last two years alone.

Flavio Diaz Miron,the current
chairman of FEMIA,released information this week about what Mexico's aerospace
industry will look like over the coming months and years as its status as a
leader in the market continues to strengthen. In 2011 alone, exports of parts
are expected to grow by at least 12%,rising to $3.5 billion from $3.1 billion
in 2010. By 2015 numbers are expected to hit $7.5 billion, with an impact on
the number of direct jobs in the country growing 28% during the same time
frame. In addition, the total number of aerospace manufacturing companies in
Mexico is predicted to grow from 232 in 2010 to more than 350 by 2015.

These impressive numbers are
fueled by Mexico's ability to meet cost requirements and delivery schedules,as
well as its proximity to precious natural resources and raw materials. In
addition,Mexico enjoys a highly stable economic, social and political climate,
as well as an increasingly educated population and strong, progressive
governmental support.

“A lot of positive things are happening in Mexico as it continues
developing strong business partnerships and work skills become stronger.”
stated Miron. “We are moving in the right direction.”
