At the recent Cancun Travel Mart,which is a huge travel industry tradeshow,Expedia shared important information about the growth of online travel bookings to Cancun and the Riviera Maya this year. Expedia is the world's largest online travel company and has long been an important partner for the Mexican Caribbean region.
“Historically Mexico has been a popular destination among Expedia consumers,and we saw that trend continue as travel bookings to Cancun and the Riviera Maya grew by 32% in the second quarter over the previous year,” said Marco Tagliatti of Latin America and Caribbean Expedia. “We believe this growth to be a direct result of the collaboration between Expedia and our more than 300 hotel partners throughout Cancun and Riviera Maya,and our collective efforts to increase demand for travel in Mexico.”
The partnership between Expedia Media Solutions and the local Mexican tourism boards in Cancun,the Riviera Maya and Cozumel have also helped to drive demand,mainly through online marketing campaigns aimed at pointing out the many benefits of choosing the Mexican Caribbean over other popular seaside destinations around the world.
At the event Expedia also shared additional information about the demand for travel to the Mexican Caribbean,including the fact that international demand has risen among travelers from Europe,Asia and Latin America,which has experienced growth rates from 75% to 270% since 2010. In addition,Expedia discussed the continued popularity of package bookings among travelers,stating that more than 75% of all hotel bookings for Cancun and the Riviera Maya involve a vacation package of some kind.
Expedia recognized the GR Solaris Cancun & Spa,the Blue Bay Grand Esmerelda in the Riviera Maya and the Sabor Cozumel Resort & Spa for leading the all-inclusive market,as well as the Gran Melia Cancun and the Riviera Maya's Fairmont Mayakoba for leading the European market.
