As part of the festivities surrounding Mexico’s Mundo Maya campaign, which celebrates the closing of the Mayan calendar on December 21,2012,artist Xavier de Maria y Campos is working on a new pyramid in the heart of Tulum in Mexico’s Riviera Maya.
Dubbed “The Pyramid of Positive Thinking,” this unique installation is designed to pay tribute to the region’s strong Mayan legacy and the amazing precision of their calendar. Situated around 80 miles south of Cancun, the art project pyramid will be constructed of positive thoughts, written down on paper and sealed in a PET bottle to create a modern-day pyramid like no other.
At approximately 40 by 40 feet wide, the pyramid will hold at least 700,000 positive thoughts, suspended within a metal frame and layered with soil that contains seeds from plants in the region that will eventually grow and cover the structure in greenery. The metal frame is designed to biodegrade over time and the top will support a three-dimensional piece of stainless steel that projects artificial light in every direction at night and reflects the sun’s rays during the day.
It will be located in the heart of downtown Tulum and visitors are invited to contribute their own positive thoughts to the project when staying in the area. The artist reportedly hopes that cosmic energy will be captured in the timeless geometry of the pyramid by placing so many positive thoughts on paper, thereby allowing them to manifest and eventually become reality. The installation is open for visitors daily between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Tulum real estate is also regarded as one of the world’s best emerging markets and is poised to become one of the most popular destinations for tourism in the coming months and years. Although Tulum is still an unspoiled tropical paradise on the Caribbean Sea,it is just a matter of time before this gem of a town is discovered by the masses.
