Tulum Airport News Imminent

12 September, 2012

News is expected very soon about the new Riviera
Maya airport
in Tulum. Now that the land has been secured by the federal
government the project should be put out to tender before the end of
May.

A number of companies are interested in bidding for the first phase
of the project, which is estimated to be worth around $50 million. Local
newspaper reports suggest the new airport will have a capacity for around 5
million passengers per year.

The project experienced delays due to Luis
Téllez Kuenzler, the federal government's Secretary for Communication and
Transport, resigning earlier this year, and bureaucratic hold-ups in the
paperwork needed to transfer ownership of the land.

Local businesses were
putting pressure on authorities last week to make the announcement. They hope it
will give a much needed boost to local tourism, which has suffered from the flu
scare.

Since Tulum became an independent municipality last year and the
new international airport has been confirmed, land prices have risen
rapidly.

Despite challenges from flu and the global crisis,Tulum real estate is about to
boom.
