Foreign companies are showing investment interest in the new Tulum airport,said Juan Molinar

México 2009 conference in Mexico City,Molinar said Mexico's Federal
Competition Commission (COFECO) would decide whether Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR),the
operators of Cancun airport,would be allowed to enter the bidding.
new airport will have a capacity for 700,000 passengers in its first year,
rising to 3 million passengers 5 years later. The total area of the airport land
is estimated at 2,644 acres (1,070 hectares).

people locally hope that the new Tulum
airport will provide the "economic trigger" to make the area one of the
most affluent parts of the Mexican Caribbean.
The airport will be in the
the municipality of Solidaridad,to the east of Xel-Ha,between Tulum and Playa
del Carmen,on the road to Cobá.
With the airport coming closer to
