Small,Medium Size Business Loans Increase Despite Recession

12 September, 2012

Mexican bank Banco del Bajio expects to
increase its loan portfolio by as much as 15% in 2009,as small and medium-sized
businesses continue to demand credit, reported news service Dow Jones
yesterday.

"Based on the results of the first quarter,we will grow the
portfolio 10% to 15% this year," said the bank's Chief Financial Officer Joaquin
Dominguez said in a telephone interview.

Banco del Bajio is based in Leon and is one of
the few medium size banks in a market dominated by five large, mainly
foreign-owned,banks,which control about 75% Mexico's loans and
deposits.

Dominguez said,"What we have done is slowly lower the
concentration of big loans to focus more on small and medium-sized
firms".
