In a recent online article Shape Magazine recognized Tulum and Cancun for having “the most beautiful beaches in the world,” touting the sun and sand of these two destinations along Mexico’s Riviera Maya as excellent motivation to get bikini ready for summer.
Tulum lies about an hour and a half south of Cancun along the Caribbean Sea of Mexico’s eastern coast. The two popular vacation destinations provide an excellent contrast to one another, with the up and coming town of Tulum featuring a more laid-back,luxurious,eco-chic vibe and the bigger city of Cancun with its legendary nightlife and larger crowds. Both destinations have plenty to offer travelers, however, with plenty of excellent dining options and countless outdoor activities to make the most of any getaway.
The consistently growing popularity of the entire region has been great news for Riviera Maya real estate, with tourism numbers expected to hit record highs in 2012 thanks in part to the coming end of the Mayan calendar in December. Although Cancun still has plenty of nightclubs and spring break parties to offer,Shape Magazine is quick to point out that the city has matured into more than just a place for college kids to blow off steam before finals.
“Cancun is a sun-kissed paradise that offers everything from horseback riding on the beach to canoeing to snorkeling to playing with dolphins,” writes Shape columnist Angela Nuñez.
Tulum,on the other hand is currently in the middle of what Travel + Leisure magazine called “a gold rush,” happening in the Riviera Maya, and according to USA Today Tulum is “the fastest-growing town in Latin America.” Boasting the only Mayan pyramid overlooking the sea,the ancient ruins of Tulum are just one of the many things to love about this gorgeous destination. In addition to the archaeological site,Tulum is home to what Condé Nast Traveler,MSNBC and TripAdvisor have also called the most beautiful beaches in the world, making this tropical paradise an obvious choice for Shape Magazine’s latest list.
