You can be forgiven for missing the good news as the media prefers to flap about
the flu,but U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, said yesterday,
that drug violence on the Mexico-U.S. border has been reduced and the security
situation is "improving."
The news was only covered by small number of
reporters, but Napolitano told a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that the
reduction was a result of thousands of troops that Mexican President Felipe
Calderon has sent to the area.
She also said Mexico's homicide rate is
dropping and border inspection points are reducing the trafficking of U.S. guns
We have already demonstrated that tourist zones in Mexico are safer than in the
U.S.,but this reduction in violence is still great news. Shame the
press didn't seem to think it was worth covering.
