Mid-term congressional elections are being held in Mexico today,the results
will reflect how Mexicans feel about President Felipe Calderón's economic
Around 77 million people are registered to vote and the campaign
has been focussed on the economy and the president's push against drug
Polls indicate that Calderón's conservative National Action
Party (PAN) will receive a smaller share of the vote than the Institutional
Revolutionary Party (PRI),that was in power for nearly seven decades until
losing its majority in 1997.
500 members of the Chamber of Deputies,the
lower house of Congress,will be elected,along with six state governors and
hundreds of mayors.
