As Mexico continues to grow in popularity as a vacation destination for travelers from around the world,the number of available flights must increase to meet demand. As a result,a number of airlines are now offering new flights to accommodate travelers eager to visit Mexico’s gorgeous beaches.
Mexico’s largest airport operator,ASUR recently reported that flights have increased dramatically during the first have of 2012,with the company’s total passenger traffic up 12.5 percent on average this June. Specifically,Cancun experienced an impressive 13.4 percent gain on the year,while Cozumel jumped by 21 percent and Merida had an increase of 23.5 percent. This growing interest among international travelers is a great sign for Mexico real estate,particularly in the Riviera Maya.
Forbes reported that Southwest plans to expand its service to Mexico through its hub at Houston Hobby Airport. The airline is reportedly investing $100 million to fund the launch of five new gates,a customs facility and improved security to handle the anticipated higher passenger volumes that will follow this expansion.
In addition,a new airline based in Carlsbad,California is gearing up to begin offering service to Cabo San Lucas and San Jose by the end of 2012. California Pacific Airlines will run three flights each week to Mexico and is North County’s first commercial airline.
Aeromexico has also announced the launch of new flights to Mexico,including daily service from New York’s JFK to Cancun,due to the popularity of the Mundo Maya events and celebrations,which commemorate the end of the Mayan Calendar later this year. Aeromexico has also started offering direct flights from Columbia’s capital of Bogota to Cancun three days each week.
Travelers from the U.S. and Canada heading to Mexico have more flights to choose from than ever before,with a wide variety of dates and times available,as well as excellent pricing options. In fact,it is estimated that at least 1,500 new flights will be opening up during the latter part of 2012,including from international destinations such as Munich,Paris and Panama.
