Mexico Officially Safe For Travel

12 September, 2012

Both the US and British governments updated their travel advice for Mexico
yesterday, saying it is now safe for travel.

The US government's Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said with the assistance of the Mexican
authorities, they had obtained a more complete picture of the
outbreak.

They downgraded their advice against non-essential travel to
Mexico,to a 'precaution' and said that the "risk of severe disease ... now
appears to be less than originally thought."

The British government's
Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said "We have updated our travel advice
for Mexico. We no longer advise against all but essential travel to the
region".

In an almost simultaneous announcement,Carnival cruise lines
said they would resume calls in Mexico in May,following the changed
advice.

The changes will be welcomed as a victory for the Mexican tourism
industry, which has had to fight back after the media frenzy over the
new flu.
