Mexico Air Traffic On The Up Again

12 September, 2012

The number of passengers traveling through Mexico's airports is on the up again, with a small but significant increase of 0.2% in March 2010 compared with March 2009.

ASUR -- the company that operates 9 airports in Mexico including Cancun,Merida and Veracruz -- posted the first increase in passenger numbers for many months, another sign that tourism has turned around in Mexico and visitors are flooding back again.

The increase was mainly due to more domestic passengers, but 6 of the airports also reported an increase in international traffic.

Cancun airport, the busiest of those that ASUR owns, saw 1,318,090 passengers in March 2010,1.1% more than the 1,303,572 that used the airport in the same month the year before.

ASUR is also expected to bid to build and operate the new Tulum airport which Mexican President,Felipe Calderón, announced recently on a visit to the area.
