GM Moves Production To Mexico

12 September, 2012

The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that General Motors will move
production of its Sierra Hybrid pickup truck to its plant in Silao,Mexico, from its current location in Oshawa,Ontario.

A company spokeswoman told
the paper that the Mexican plant already produces the Crew Cab version of the
Sierra, with a non-hybrid engine,as well as several other models of pickup
trucks.

More information on the move, including production numbers,is
expected next month.

General Motors' operations in Mexico haven't been
directly affected by the company's U.S. bankruptcy proceedings.

The
financial daily said General Motors will not operate its plant in the Mexican
city of San Luis Potosi for seven weeks this summer due to weak demand, but its
three other Mexican plants - in Toluca,Ramos Arizpe and Silao - are expected to
continue operating normally.
