Tourism Numbers Soar in Mexico’s Riviera Maya

The Riviera Maya and all it has to offer is no longer a secret to the travelers of the world. This 80 mile stretch of beautiful beaches, dining and activities is attracting travelers from all over the world. TripAdvisor just released their 2017 list of Mexico’s favorite destinations and locations in this dynamic Mexican Caribbean region took four of the top six spots, which is great news if you’ve been thinking about buying property here.

The numbers are staggering. Mexico is now ranked eighth in the world in total visitors, just behind the United Kingdom. And, statistics show 70% of those travelers come to the Riviera Maya.

For the 2017-18 Christmas holiday season, downtown Playa del Carmen is forecast to welcome almost 800,000 visitors. For a small, bohemian beach town, the fact that Tulum is number 4 is equally intriguing. Development continues at a record pace in Tulum as travelers from all over the world flock there to enjoy the best beaches in the world, the ruins, the gastronomic choices and wellness opportunities.

Remember that Playa del Carmen and Tulum do not have many of the huge all-inclusive resorts that are popular in some top beach destinations. Instead, both places have a growing collection of small boutique hotels and condo developments for the traveler who wants to enjoy a true Mexican Caribbean experience.

As a result, both places are attractive to savvy investors who see the tourism numbers continue to rise and understand that occupancy and disposable income equals excellent return on investment for owners who want to enjoy paradise when they feel like visiting and earn passive income the rest of the year.
